Welcome to Frontier Local School
District!
Welcome to Frontier Local School
District’s new website. Frontier Local School District serves over 800 students,
within it's three elementary schools and one 7-12 school. In 1968 Frontier Local School District was
formed from the consolidation of four school districts, Newport, Lawrence,
Bloomfield, and Matamoras. Cougars became the new athletic mascot name
and the new school colors became Columbia Blue and Vegas Gold. Located
along the Ohio River in Washington County, the district covers 156 square
miles with Wayne National Forest, making up 40 percent of the area. Frontier
Local School District is the largest employer in the district with
approximately 100 employees.
The district is mainly rural with a
limited tax base and approximately 80 percent of our operating funds come
from the state and federal governments. Over 60 percent of our students
qualify for Free or Reduced Lunches and the district offers free breakfast
to every student.
Frontier Local School District earned a state report card rating of “Effective”
for the 2009-2010 school and Frontier High Middle School earned a Bronze
Medal rating in 2009 from U.S. News and World Report.
Please explore the new website and feel
free to contact me or any of the school principals with suggestions for
improving the site.
